Data & Methodology
How we collect, process, and present ESG performance data for Bangladesh's ready-made garment sector.
1 Data Sources
Energy Assessment Survey
Covers 156 factories across energy consumption, water usage, waste management, workforce demographics, and renewable energy installations.
- Factories covered
- 156
- Variables
- 907
- Survey year
- 2025
Compliance Assessment Survey
Covers 158 factories across building permits, structural safety, fire safety, electrical safety, and environmental compliance.
- Factories covered
- 158
- Variables
- 190
- Survey sections
- 5
2 Missing Value Handling
Both source datasets use -999
as a sentinel value to indicate missing or not-applicable responses. All import
pipelines convert these to NULL
before storing in the database.
Aggregate statistics (sector averages, percentile ranks, benchmarking scores) are
computed excluding NULL
values. Dashboard metrics display "—" where data is unavailable rather than
imputing zero or carrying forward prior values.
3 Factory Anonymization
All public-facing views identify factories by an anonymized code (e.g.
FAC-042)
derived deterministically from the survey identifier. Factory names, contact
information, and GPS coordinates are never displayed publicly.
Factory codes are assigned once and remain immutable to preserve stable external references (e.g. buyer audit links, API integrations).
Peer-group benchmarking enforces a minimum group size of n ≥ 10 factories before computing percentile ranks, preventing de-anonymization through inference.
4 GHG Emissions Calculation
Greenhouse gas emissions are calculated from energy inputs using Bangladesh-specific emission factors published by BPDB and SREDA. Emission factors are updated annually.
| Scope | Source | Factor (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 | Diesel generators, natural gas boilers | 2.68 / 2.02 kgCO₂e/L-kg |
| Scope 2 | Grid electricity (BPDB) | 0.596 kgCO₂e/kWh |
Intensity metrics are reported in both per piece (pcs) and per kg. Cut-to-pack factories derive kg from average weight per piece; composite/vertically integrated factories track kg natively.
5 ESG Scoring Overview
The composite ESG score is a weighted average across three pillars. See the Scoring Algorithm page for the full methodology.
